Style Guide

The Newborn

styling for your session can be a daunting task. I highly recommend choosing your outfits ahead of time and laying them together to make sure they go as well as you're anticipating! The following section is tailored to helping you look and feel your best for your session!

choose colors that compliment the environment.

In addition to complimenting your environment, try to dress everyone in complementary colors rather than identically. Complementary colors are easy on the eyes, and provide more depth than one solid line of color. They also bring a sense of authenticity and style to your photographs to keep them from feeling "stale" or "dated." Conversely, a hodgepodge of color can become a distraction, and we want to make sure the spotlight is always on you and your family! For this same reason, try to avoid patterns and large logos. Below are some great newborn color palette examples for an array of environments and family sizes.

Finishing Touches

Let's not forget the

Color coordinating to your environment and each other is arguably the most important part of styling for your shoot, but there are two more key things to consider.

Flatter Yourself and Dress comfortably.

This can sometimes be the hardest part. You know what you feel great in, so generally, trust that! I highly recommend avoiding overly baggy clothes as they tend to make people look bigger than they are, and they make it harder to accentuate natural contours in photos. Likewise, if clothes stick too tightly, they emphasize every creek and crevice you might not even know exists! Ultimately, wear clothes that fit you well.

Don't forget the details.

It can be really easy to get caught up in the big picture and forget about the little things. These details are different for everyone. Some love freshly painted nails, others want professionally finished hair, and for others, these details are a simple as adding their favorite piece of jewelry to their outfit. There is no wrong answer as long as you feel beautiful and comfortable exactly as you are!

Fun tip: Any "simple" outfit can be brought to life elegantly with your favorite piece of jewelry. I usually love to recommend necklaces, but earrings and bracelets are also great and can look absolutely lovely together! It's more about what you're comfortable with than anything else.
